With top 5 teams falling in Morgantown and Tallahassee, it was another great weekend in college football.
Looking back at Saturday’s schedule of games, let’s take a trip around the country to the five best environments in Week 8:
1. Doak Campbell Stadium, Florida State
With most of America (including most SDS staffers) rooting for Notre Dame to pull the upset in Tallahassee, the Florida State faithful provided an electric atmosphere Saturday night. A capacity crowd of 82,431 lost its collective mind after a controversial finish wiped away a Notre Dame touchdown that would’ve give the Irish the lead in the final seconds. In addition to its tradition of Osceola planting the spear at midfield, fans loved the three parachuters that landed at midfield pre game, as well.

2. Milan Puskar Stadium, West Virginia Milan Puskar Stadium has more seats than West Virginia’s largest city has people. Despite its intimacy, it was loud Saturday afternoon as head coach Dana Holgerson got the biggest win of his tenure with the Mountaineers. The win over Baylor had to have led from some significant couch burning in Morgantown. West Virginia is one of the few collegiate venues that serves alcohol in stadium, and as a result, officials had to ask fans to quit throwing objects onto the field. After the loss, Baylor fans took some jabs to the West Virginia faithful.

3. Autzen Stadium, Oregon
Tracktown USA is one of the premier venues in the nation, and it showed why again Saturday night in the Ducks’ win over Washington. Autzen Stadium is arguably the loudest place to play west of the Mississippi, and its also one of the more scenic with 60,000-plus packed in where it never rains.

4. Bryant-Denny Stadium, Alabama The Crimson Tide made a statement to college football on Saturday afternoon. Over 100,000 people saw Alabama completely dismantle a Texas A&M that is turning out to be very average. The Alabama crowd chanted “We want State” referring to the Crimson Tide’s matchup with No. 1 Mississippi State next month. Bama fans had good reason to stick around and sing “Rammer Jammer” this week.

5. Tiger Stadium, LSU
The Tigers improved to 45-4 in night games at Death Valley after a blowout of Kentucky. The added upper deck, not only took attendance well over 100,000 but increased volume to an already mind-bogglingly loud stadium. Though the LSU faithful began filing out late in the third quarter, the youthful Wildcats had to deal with the toughest environment in college football early and were clearly shaken. According to an LSU beat writer, the only reason LSU fans have had to stay around lately was a George Strait concert in May.
