Scott Van Pelt has a pick against the spread for this weekend’s Alabama-Oklahoma game.

As Van Pelt often does, he’s going with the home underdog. He picked the Sooners +13.5 as part of his weekly ‘Winners’ segment on Sports Center.

“We close with the Sooners of Oklahoma who have had a rough go in their first year in the SEC,” Van Pelt said. “Getting some reinforcements back for Bama, they’ve already lost 2 SEC games at home, and this is their last home game in this maiden campaign in the league. They’re gonna sign up for 60 [minutes].”

Van Pelt is 3-3 all-time when picking Oklahoma as part of this segment, per ESPN.

As Van Pelt alluded to, Oklahoma is expected to be a bit healthier this weekend than it has been in recent weeks. Running back Gavin Sawchuk is set to return to the lineup vs. the Crimson Tide, although star receiver Deion Burkes remains out with an injury.

Oklahoma is desperate to earn 1 more win this season. The Sooners are 5-5 on the year and have not missed a bowl game since 1998 — the year before Bob Stoops arrived in Norman. OU will close out the regular season at LSU next weekend, meaning this is its last home game of the year.

Alabama also can’t afford any slip-ups as it tries to reach the College Football Playoff in Kalen DeBoer’s first season.
