The Spurrier name has been synonymous with high school and college football for decades. Now there’s a new generation making headlines.
Steve Spurrier’s grandson, Gavin Spurrier, made his first start as a high school quarterback in Kentucky on Friday, The Sporting Times magazine reported. Gavin Spurrier’s team, South Warren High, knocked off Hopkinsville, 35-14, in Bowling Green, Ky. Gavin Spurrier, a junior, was 14-for-30 passing for 263 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

The reason Gavin Spurrier is playing high school football in Kentucky is because his father, Steve Spurrier Jr., is assistant head coach and quarterbacks coach at Western Kentucky University. Spurrier Jr. last season worked in an off-field role at Oklahoma as a recruiting and offensive specialist.
From 2005-15, Spurrier Jr. was an offensive assistant at South Carolina working under his father. He was the Gamecocks’ co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach from 2012-15.
