Here’s something you don’t see everyday: Three penalties forced an Eastern Michigan kickoff from the Charlotte 20-yard line during their game Saturday.
So, kicking from where its opponent would have started after a touchback anyway, the Eagles decided to attempt an onside kick.

The onside attempt was unsuccessful considering Eastern Michigan didn’t recover it. However, strategically, it worked since Charlotte recovered on the 17-yard line, rather than start from the 20, which was almost guaranteed with a capable kickoff specialist.
Eastern Michigan defeated Charlotte 37-19.
