On Tuesday, there was an ugly incident in a Division III basketball game between Fitchburg State and Nichols College in Massachusetts.
Fitchburg State player Kewan Platt delivered one of the dirtiest cheap shots you’ll ever see against Nichols College’s Nate Tenaglia.
As you can see in the video below, right after Tenaglia drains a three, Platt delivers a running elbow directly to his face:

Not only was Platt suspended from the team, Fitchburg State also announced that he’d been barred from campus for the cheap shot:
His behavior is antithetical to our community values and good sportsmanship. Fitchburg State does not tolerate behavior that violates those standards. The case is being reviewed at the student conduct level for consideration of further sanctions.

Based on the nature of the hit, and the fact that there’s video of the incident, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see criminal charges filed in this case.
Fortunately, Tenaglia is OK, and was even able to finish the game, but that hit has no place in basketball (or any other sport outside of MMA).
