Down year for the SEC? The latest CFP rankings disagree

This summer, we heard talk of how the ACC and Big Ten were deeper overall conferences than the SEC and how the SEC was in for a down year.

And while it’s true that some of the other conferences in the nation are better top to bottom than the SEC, no other conference has more elite teams.

In fact, in Tuesday night’s College Football Playoff rankings, three SEC teams — No. 1 Georgia, No. 2 Alabama and No. 10 Auburn — cracked the top 10. No other conference had more than two teams in the top 10:

The Big 12 has the No. 5, No. 6 and No. 15 teams, and the ACC has the No. 4, No. 7 and No. 17 teams, but that’s not as good as the SEC.

While either No. 1 Georgia or No. 10 Auburn will lose this weekend as the two teams square off, it’s still a good time to be an elite team in the SEC.

Heading into the third CFP rankings that will be released at this time next week, the other conferences are still playing catchup.
