Alshon Jeffery’s jersey retirement ceremony at Saturday’s South Carolina contest against Mississippi State was a big moment for the legendary former Gamecock wide receiver.

It has such an impact on the Gamecock faithful that South Carolina women’s basketball head coach Dawn Staley is showing love for Jeffery.

Matt Vereen, sports anchor/reporter for WACH FOX in Columbia, S.C., posted photos on X of Staley rocking Jeffery’s No. 17 Philadelphia Eagles jersey.

Staley, a Philly native, has coached the South Carolina women’s basketball coach since 2008. In that span, Staley and the Gamecocks have won 2 national titles and has made 5 Final Four appearances.

Jeffery had an illustrious college football career for South Carolina. In 3 seasons with the Gamecocks, Jeffery finished with 3,042 receiving yards and caught 23 touchdowns.

Drafted in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft, Jeffery tallied 6786 yards and 46 TDs between 2012 and 2020 for the Chicago Bears and Eagles.

Jeffery was released by the Eagles in March 2021. Since then, he has not played in the NFL.

South Carolina is leading Mississippi State, 20-17, at the half. The Gamecocks are looking to improve their record to 2-2 with a win against the Bulldogs.
