Marcus Satterfield has big plans for Spencer Rattler: ‘We didn’t bring him here to hand the ball off’

Marcus Satterfield plans to open up the offense more this season as the South Carolina offensive coordinator will hope to have more stability at quarterback.

“As long as we stay healthy, I think you’re going to see a playbook, I mean in the bowl game, we were taking shots and pushed the ball down the field,” Satterfield said. “I think we can definitely do that with Spencer (Rattler). I told him the other day, we didn’t bring him here to hand the ball off.”

Satterfield will be one of the more scrutinized offensive coordinators this season because of how the Gamecocks struggled at times last season, and because of the addition of Rattler.

Overall, the Gamecocks are deeper across the board and have more dynamic players on offense that would fit in on other SEC teams. They expect a dramatic improvement from last season, when they finished 13th in the SEC in scoring at 22.6 points per game.

When Rattler was at Oklahoma, he completed 70.1 percent of his passes (361-for-515) for 4,595 yards with 40 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
