What has already been a rough start to South Carolina’s 2019 season got rougher with DB Jamyest Williams opting to enter his name into the NCAA’s transfer portal.
The news broke on Monday and coach Will Muschamp commented on the matter at his Tuesday press conference. Now Williams has released his own statement via his Twitter account, thanking Muschamp, Travaris Robinson and Gamecocks players and fans:
“I never been the type that seek attention and don’t wanna take attention from my brothers as they prepare to go to war. But just want to say the last couple years at South Carolina have been great to me through ups and downs playing through injury putting team before self I gave Gamecocks nation my all. I wanna thank Coach Muschamp and Coach Trob for all my opportunities and wish them and the players nothing but success in the future. But sometimes change is needed for a person to obtain goals in life for a future that’s uncertain therefore have decided to put my name in the College Football Transfer Portal *prayer emoji*
Thank you GamecockNation 4 your support *heart emoji*”
A former 4-star recruit in the class of 2017, Williams has played in every game this season and is fifth on the team in tackles. His decision comes after playing in four games in 2019, allowing him to take a redshirt for the season and preserve a year of eligibility.
