The South Carolina Gamecocks gave the Georgia Bulldogs all they could handle, but ended up losing to the No. 1 team in the country 24-10 in Athens.
The Bulldogs improved to 9-0 on the season, while South Carolina is now 6-3, though it was an impressive battle from coach Will Muschamp’s crew.
However, at the end of the day, the Gamecocks lost, and that’s what counts in the standings.
After the game Muschamp addressed some of his team’s struggles, complimenting the Bulldogs while explaining where the Gamecocks failed.
Here’s what Muschamp had to say about Saturday’s tough road loss:
On having trouble tackling Nick Chubb and Sony Michel:
Will Muschamp: "We teach tackling every day. There is not a lot of 27s and 1s walking around on this earth."
— Josh Kendall (@JoshTheAthletic) November 4, 2017
Will Muschamp: Difference was their running backs, and third down. They made a lot of people miss.

On how physical South Carolina played:
Muschamp preaches physicality: How'd they perform today? "We didn't win the game. That's how you measure it."
— David Cloninger (@DCPandC) November 4, 2017
On kicking struggles:
Muschamp: Kicking — "It's frustrating," but I got confidence in the guy.

On some fourth-down decision:
Muschamp on the fourth-and-5: At that time of the game, still a one-score game. "No reason to panic there."
— David Cloninger (@DCPandC) November 4, 2017
Muschamp: Didn't call timeout on the punt because they were setting up the pass play to Edwards. It was open, play just didn't happen.
— David Cloninger (@DCPandC) November 4, 2017
On lack of rhythm offensively:
Muschamp: We felt like we could throw the football in this ballgame. "We had to get more of a rhythm offensively." Just couldn't get D off the field.

South Carolina was eliminated from SEC East contention with Saturday’s loss. The Gamecocks will now prepare to take on a struggling Florida team next weekend in Columbia.
