After a 1-3 start to the 2019 season. South Carolina was in big need of a win. Will Muschamp’s squad bounced back on Saturday night, beating Kentucky 24-7 to improve to 2-3 and snap UK’s five-game streak over the Gamecocks.
After the game, Muschamp met with reporters to share his reaction, talk injuries and explain why he’s wearing glasses. Here are the highlights of what Muschamp said in his postgame press conference:
- “I wish we stayed on field a little bit more, offensively, in the second half.”
- On his glasses: “You know what? I’m getting old. I can’t see as well, especially at night. … It’s been a (expletive) fall.”
- Glasses answer, continued: I’ve got more gray hair than I’ve ever had. My wife doesn’t like hanging around with losers and we’ve been losing so it ain’t been good.”
- On Dylan Wonnum: He hurt his ankle in Missouri game, will be out 3-4 weeks. Muschamp surprised it’s not broken.
- On RB Rico Dowdle: He has an ankle injury. They don’t know yet how severe.
- On Kentucky: “Obviously, they have some issues offensively.”
- Jamel Cook and Keir Thomas were back home in Miami because a high school teammate they were close to was killed in a car accident.
- On Gamecocks offense: “Tonight, we felt the run game was working. We felt good with some of the runs we had going into the ball game.”
- On Jaylen Nichols: Thought he played better in second half.
- “I thought we won tonight on the line of scrimmage.”
