Georgia Tech hires NBA assistant as new men’s basketball head coach, per report

Georgia Tech recently parted ways with coach Josh Pastner after 7 years of sub-.500 basketball. Pastner’s overall record was 109-113 during that time.
He led the Yellow Jackets to an ACC Tournament title in 2021, but they were bounced in Round 1 of the NCAA Tournament in Pastner’s only trip to March Madness at Georgia Tech.
Now, per Adrian Wojnarowski and Pete Thamel at ESPN, the Yellow Jackets are turning to the NBA ranks for their next head coach. Per the ESPN reporters, Boston Celtics assistant Damon Stoudamire will take over as Georgia Tech’s coach:

Stoudamire has some previous college coaching experience, leading Pacific to an overall record of 71-77 in 5 years from 2016-17 to 2020-21.
He played in the NBA from 1995 to 2008 with the Toronto Raptors, Portland Trail Blazers, Memphis Grizzlies and San Antonio Spurs.
He’s been on the Celtics’ coaching staff since 2021-22. How he fares at Georgia Tech remains to be seen, but the Yellow Jackets seemingly have their guy.
