Jimbo Fisher confirmed that Conner Weigman will most likely miss the remainder of the season during the SEC coaches teleconference Wednesday.

Fisher and Texas A&M initially thought Weigman was just dealing with a sprain, but after further evaluation it appears to be much worse.

“Like I said at the press conference, I thought everything was fine, was having some pain, we X-rayed and MRIed it, didn’t show anything, just thought it was a normal sprain,” Fisher said. “He had some pains, they got a CAT scan that showed some things that they’re going to have to go in and fix, and get that done, so most likely will be out.”

Before the injury, Weigman had racked up 979 yards, 8 touchdowns and had thrown 2 interceptions.

With Weigman not making a return anytime soon, Max Johnson will be at the helm of the Aggies’ offense. Johnson came into Saturday’s game and had a solid outing, throwing for 123 yards and 2 touchdowns.

While Fisher would like to have his initial starter for the rest of the season, he has confidence in Johnson moving forward.

“We feel very confident in Max,” Fisher said. “Max came in and played great, unfortunately we had to lose Conner for our football team and for himself. But like I said before I think we have 2 starting quarterbacks and felt very good about that, so we’ll have to move on. But like I said that’s where we’re at.”

Johnson will get his first bout as starter as the Aggies take on Arkansas this weekend.
