Jimbo Fisher dialed in to Wednesday’s weekly teleconference to discuss Texas A&M’s improved pass rush under DC DJ Durkin.
The Aggies are currently leading the SEC with 29 sacks on the season. Their defensive line is deadly and it’s helped the secondary significantly as the Aggies are able to affect the opposing quarterback seemingly at will.
Here’s what Fisher had to say when his team’s pass rush was brought up:
“It is huge and you’ve got to affect the quarterback. Today’s game is about the quarterback,” Fisher said. “The way teams spread, the way quarterbacks can run, the way they throw the football, how talented these young men are, I mean everybody’s got guys who can do it. When you can affect the quarterback, it gives your defense ways to get off the field on 3rd down and things like that. But the ability to pressure guys and to hit guys and tackle guys and sack guys, it has an effect on their consistency and accuracy as the game goes on, it’s a huge part of why we’re having so much success on defense.”
The Aggies face off against South Carolina this week, looking to snap a 2-game losing skid.
