Expectations were high heading into the 2021 season for Texas A&M quarterback Haynes King, but the 6-3, 205-pounder suffered a season-ending ankle injury in the Aggies’ second game of the year against Colorado.
As the famous Yogi Berra saying goes … “it’s deja vu all over again” for King and the Aggies heading into 2022.
Jimbo Fisher’s team begins the season ranked No. 6 in the AP poll and King will begin the year as the starting quarterback.
On Monday during his weekly media availability, Fisher talked about King and why he emerged through fall camp as QB No. 1.
“Haynes (King) is a very involved guy… That’s who he is, Fisher said.
Jimbo Fisher: "Haynes (King) is a very involved guy… That's who he is."
Fisher adds that King gave his teammates a lot of leadership and support last season even though he was out with injury.

That said, the competition was close and Fisher added that Max Johnson and Conner Weigman also had solid camps.
For Saturday’s opener against Sam Houston State, King is atop the depth chart, followed by Johnson and then Weigman.
Jimbo Fisher on if there was a deciding factor in the QB battle: "There is no deciding factor. There are multitudes over a period of time. We feel confident in all three quarterbacks."
"We're very comfortable with Haynes and feel like he had a great camp."
