Johnny Manziel shared a message of support for Reggie Bush on Wednesday morning following the news that his Heisman Trophy will be reinstated.
Bush had his Heisman Trophy taken away in 2011 following a NCAA investigation that found Bush received impermissible benefits while playing for the Trojans. He starred for USC from 2003-05 and took home the Heisman Trophy after a memorable 2005 campaign.
Since the start of the NIL era, pressure has been mounting for Bush’s Heisman win to be reinstated by the Heisman Trophy Trust.
Manziel, who won the Heisman with Texas A&M in 2012, was amongst the most-vocal voices in advocating for Bush’s Heisman to be reinstated. Earlier this year, Manziel said he would be boycotting the Heisman Trophy ceremony until Bush’s trophy was returned.
Here’s Manziel’s statement on the matter:
“Thank you to the Heisman Trophy for doing what’s right and welcoming a storied member of our history back into the fold. There were many voices throughout this process that stood on the table for Reggie simply because of the kind of human being he is. I look forward to being on that stage with you this December.”

Bush also released a statement via ESPN morning sharing his reaction to this news:
“Personally, I’m thrilled to reunite with my fellow Heisman winners and be a part of the storied legacy of the Heisman Trophy, and I’m honored to return to the Heisman family. I also look forward to working together with the Heisman Trust to advance the values and mission of the organization.”
Bush originally won the Heisman Trophy in 2005 after rushing for 1,740 yards and 16 touchdowns. He helped lead the Trojans to a 37-2 record from 2003-05.
