Texas A&M has seen a safety declare his intentions to enter the transfer portal.
Jardin Gilbert, a member of the Aggies for 3 seasons, told On3 of his decision on Monday, later retweeting the report to his own X account.
Gilbert, whose 2023 season was abbreviated due to injury, put together a strong campaign in 2022, totaling 61 tackles and 2 interceptions. His 61 stops were tied for 4th on the team with Edgerrin Cooper.
However, against Louisiana-Monroe on Sept. 16, he suffered a shoulder injury. He would require surgery and was shelved for the remainder of the season.
A Baton Rouge, La. product, Gilbert was a 4-star recruit in the class of 2021, ranked as the No. 16 safety in the country and the No. 9 player in the state. He was recruited in part by Mike Elko, who eventually headed to Duke as its head coach for 2 seasons — but despite Elko returning to College Station as Jimbo Fisher’s replacement, it looks as if Gilbert will complete his college career elsewhere.
