Cole Cubelic was on the call for Tennessee’s 41-20 home victory vs. South Carolina in Week 5. The ESPN analyst emerged impressed with both the atmosphere and the poise of the Vols.
During a recent episode of the Cube Show, Cubelic raved about the atmosphere at Neyland Stadium after Tennessee lost last season at South Carolina.
“It was a fantastic weekend in Knoxville. The place was rocking. That was what Neyland Stadium is supposed to be,” Cubelic said. “That’s what I remember it like in 1999. It was the loudest stadium that I’ve ever played in. I said that on the broadcast. I’ll continue saying that because it just is.”
Cubelic believes the Vols fans were especially pumped up because of the desire for payback.
“When they run through the ‘T’ and they’ve got the orange ring going around and the spotlight coming down. The place was jammed. It was a revenge game for the fans,” Cubelic said. “…I do think that revenge factor played a big part in how loud it was and how crazy the town was.”
Meanwhile, Cubelic marvels at the maturity of Tennessee this season.
“Guys like Tyler Baron, they’re telling us how they care more about the team than they do individual things,” Cubelic said. “…There’s a maturity with this team that I’m not sure a lot of us thought was going to be there heading into this year.”
No. 22 Tennessee will strive for a 3-game winning streak when they come out of the bye week to host Texas A&M on Oct. 14.
