Greg McElroy spoke about what life for Tennessee could look like in 2023 on the ‘Always College Football’ podcast. The Vols lost a lot of talent to the 2023 NFL Draft.
The Volunteers will be without Hendon Hooker, Jalin Hyatt, Cedric Tillman, and Darnell Wright on the offensive side of the ball to name a few.
While it could be challenging to produce a similar outcome like last season, McElroy noted that it will all depend on how QB Joe Milton III does.
“A lot of the expectation around Tennessee surrounds Joe Milton. If he plays phenomenal, they’ll be great. If he plays average, they’ll be average. If he plays bad, they’ll be bad. It’s as simple as that. Quarterback-driven game, quarterback-driven offense, quarterback-driven team.”

Milton started at quarterback last season after Hendon Hooker suffered a torn ACL against South Carolina. Milton played against Vanderbilt and Clemson in the Orange Bowl.
In those two starts, he recorded 398 yards passing with 4 touchdowns.
While Milton led the Vols to wins in his two starts, it doesn’t compare to a full season at starting QB in college football.
Fans will get to see if Milton can live up to the hype now that Hooker is in the NFL. Can Milton deliver?
