Tennessee assistant coach Kim English leaving for head coaching position
Kim English’s time on Rocky Top has come to an end.
The assistant coach has been a member of Rick Barnes’ Tennessee coaching staff throughout one of the best runs in program history but as the case with all successful assistants, the time for a promotion to a head coaching position has come.
English will be the next head coach at George Mason according to multiple reports. The news of English leaving for George Mason was first reported by Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports.
Barnes hired English from Colorado back in 2019 and he’s helped Tennessee recruit at an elite level since that time. English played for the Missouri Tigers and was a two-time All-Big 12 selection before having a brief NBA career.
English will replace Dave Paulsen at George Mason after the coach went 95–91 in six seasons with the program. Under Jim Larrañaga, George Mason advanced all the way to the Final Four back in 2006.
UPDATE: George Mason has confirmed the news of English’s hire.
The English Era starts now! ?
We are thrilled to welcome Kim English as the 11th head coach in our program’s history.
