While Peyton Manning continues to search for his next career choice after hanging up his cleats following Denver’s win in Super Bowl 50, the all-time great NFL and college quarterback is still a hot commodity on the entertainment side of the sports spectrum. The latest evidence of that fact comes with ESPN’s announcement that Manning has been selected as the host of the 25th annual ESPY Awards.

During last year’s show, Manning was selected as an ESPY Icon. The former Tennessee quarterback released a statement, via ESPN.com, expressing what an honor it is to be selected as an ESPY host.

“It’s an honor to be asked to host the ESPYS, and it’s even more meaningful that it’s the 25th year for this incredible event. The ESPYS have been a part of my life during my entire career. I can still remember attending my very first show back in 1998 before my rookie season in the NFL.”

Manning becomes the first football player to host the event and only the fourth athlete to do so, joining Lance Armstrong (2006), LeBron James (2007), and Jon Cena (2016).

The ESPYs air on ABC. The latest edition will be held July 12 in Los Angeles.
