Max Abmas and No. 19 Texas are 4-0 in the young college basketball season. The grad transfer from Oral Roberts connected with a jumper with four-tenths of a second remaining as the Longhorns defeated Louisville 81-80, advancing to the final of the Saatva Empire Classic at Madison Square Garden.
The Cardinals led 80-79 before turning it over at midcourt with around 7 seconds left. That gave the Longhorns the ball back with more than enough time for Abmas to hit a fallaway jumper to put Texas ahead for good.

The Longhorns, an Elite 8 participant in 2022-23, are being led by Rodney Terry in his 1st full season. Terry took over as interim head coach on Dec. 12, 2022 after the suspension of Chris Beard (who was later fired) and was given the job permanently after the season.
Meanwhile, the Cardinals were 4-28 in Kenny Payne’s 1st year in charge. They entered the game 2-1 with wins over UMBC and Coppin State, but fell just a bit short of an upset win at MSG.
Texas next faces No. 5 UConn in the tournament championship on Monday. Louisville takes on Indiana in the 3rd-place game.
