Steve Sarkisian announces plans for Quinn Ewers in Week 11 vs. TCU

Steve Sarkisian announced Thursday afternoon that Quinn Ewers will start Week 11’s matchup against TCU.
Ewers has been hurt since October 21’s win over Houston, with redshirt freshman Maalik Murphy starting in his place.
Murphy did about how you’d expect. He wasn’t actively losing Texas any games, but the Longhorns have always needed Ewers back before the final stretch of the season if they want to truly compete for a spot in the CFP.

Ewers was playing out of his mind before suffering that injury against Houston, too. He threw for 349 yards with 3 touchdowns and 0 interceptions in Texas’ win over Alabama in Tuscaloosa. He’s accounted for 18 total touchdowns – 13 passing and 5 rushing – in just 7 games this season.
The Longhorns’ path to the CFP is possible but will need some help. Texas needs to win out and win the Big 12 title, but also needs the Pac-12 champion to have at least one, preferably 2 losses. Even then, reaching the playoff is far from guaranteed.
Texas can only control what it can control now. The Longhorns look to extend its win streak to 4 this Saturday in Fort Worth.
