Steve Sarkisian told reporters Thursday Maalik Murphy will start at QB over Arch Manning in place of injured starter Quinn Ewers vs. BYU.
There is no current timetable for Ewers’ return. The standout Longhorns QB was injured during last week’s narrow win over Houston.
This will be Murphy’s first career start.

Murphy and Manning will both get reps on Saturday according to a report from a few days ago. Murphy was assumed to be the starter as Sarkisian told reporters, but he had made no definitive comment on the matter until Thursday.
Murphy is a redshirt freshman for the Longhorns and has appeared minimally this season. He completed 3 passes for 40 yards against Rice earlier in the season and added 7 yards against Houston last week.
The Longhorns and Cougars will face off at 3:30 p.m. ET on ABC this Saturday.
