Texas is in the final stages of extending athletic director Chris Del Conte’s contract, the university announced on Friday evening.

The university said in a press release Friday that it has submitted Del Conte’s proposed extension for approval to the UT System Board of Regents. The contract runs through 2030 and is worth up to $19.255 million, per the release.

“Nearly six years ago, I followed my dream to lead the best collegiate athletics program in the country at a university that changes the world,” Del Conte said in a press release. “I have been truly honored and thrilled to have such genuine support and trust from Chairman Eltife and President Hartzell. With Longhorn Nation firmly behind us, we have steadfastly worked together to make Texas an elite destination for collegiate athletics, surrounded by the premier coaches, staff and student-athletes in the country. I could not be more exited as we head into the final year of the Big 12, prepare to enter the Southeastern Conference, and embark on the next chapter in the proud and storied history of Texas Athletics.”

Del Conte has served as Texas’ athletic director since 2017. Across all sports, the Longhorns have won 11 National Championships and 58 Big 12 titles during his tenure.

He also helped orchestrate Texas’ move to the SEC, as both UT and Oklahoma are slated to officially make that move next summer. This upcoming college football season will be Texas’ final campaign in the Big 12.

Del Conte’s new contract is expected to be approved by the Board of Regents during their regularly-scheduled meeting on Aug. 23-24.
