Texas and Notre Dame are going to be squaring off on the football field in a marquee nonconference series. The two programs confirmed the series on social media on Tuesday.
The home-and-home series will begin in 2028 when Texas visits Notre Dame Stadium on Sept. 9. The Fighting Irish will complete the series by traveling to face the Longhorns in Austin on Sept. 22, 2029.

The two programs are among the most historically prestigious in all of college football, but they have just 12 all-time meetings. They most recently completed a home-and-home series in 2015 and 2016 with the Longhorns winning the most recent matchup in 2016. Notre Dame holds a 9-3 all-time edge in the series.
Texas has not been shy about scheduling elite nonconference opponents recently, even with the introduction of the new 12-team Playoff. The Longhorns played Michigan in Ann Arbor this season and will travel to face Ohio State in Columbus during the 2025 schedule.
While the series between Texas and Notre Dame is down the road a bit, there is a chance the two teams face off in the Playoff between now and then, potentially as early as this season. Both programs are currently in the latest CFP bracket as we hit the final 2 weeks of the regular season, so anything can truly happen.
