Texas is off to a high-flying start in the 2023 season, and the Longhorns are in the process of compiling an elite recruiting class. Steve Sarkisian’s program picked up a major piece for that 2024 class Sunday night.
The player is Brandon Baker, a 6-foot-5 and 290-pound offensive lineman out of Mater Dei High School in California. He was still considering Ohio State, Oregon, Florida State and Nebraska at the time of his commitment to the Longhorns.
Baker’s a 5-star recruit and one of the best overall players in the country:

According to the 247 Sports Composite, Baker is the nation’s No. 1 offensive tackle prospect and the 25th recruit in the country for the 2024 recruiting cycle. He is the second player with a 5-star composite rating to commit to the Longhorns.
Baker’s pledge brings Sarkisian’s program up to 18 players for the cycle, a group currently ranked No. 15 nationally by the 247 Sports Team Composite. He joins 5-star LB Colin Simmons as the top players in the latest class for the Longhorns.
