The Vanderbilt Commodores had been one of the best stories in the early part of the 2018-19 college basketball season, winning their first four games.
That was thanks in large part to talented freshmen Darius Garland and Simi Shittu, who were part of a great recruiting class brought in by coach Bryce Drew.
Now, though, it appears Garland will miss significant time, as Drew announced on Saturday morning that the freshman guard had a left meniscus tear:
Breaking: Darius Garland has a left meniscus injury, is out indefinitely, and a timetable isn’t known, Bryce Drew tells CBS Sports.

Garland apparently suffered the injury during Friday night’s home loss to Kent State, putting a damper on the early success of the ‘Dores.
It’s unknown how long Garland will be out, but as a potential first-round pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, he’ll have to be careful.
