Vanderbilt basketball receives fine from SEC for court storming after upset of Tennessee

Vanderbilt basketball registered a huge win on Wednesday, coming up with a last-second upset of No. 6 Tennessee on a shot by Tyrin Lawrence. That win was the first for the Commodores against the Volunteers since 2017.

After the win, fans rushed the court in celebration. On Friday, the SEC officially announced a fine on Vanderbilt as a result.

According to the SEC’s press release, Vanderbilt has received a $250,000 fine for a fourth offense of the league’s access to competition area policy. The Commodores most recently received a fine during the 2022 football season following the game against Florida.

The SEC previously announced that a working group on event security is reviewing and updating league policies to address post-game spectator incursions. Any changes to SEC regulations will go into effect for the 2023-24 athletic year.
