Things could not have started better for Vanderbilt in Nashville against rival Tennessee.

Junior Sherrill got things started with a 100-yard kickoff return, untouched, for a Vanderbilt touchdown.

And it gets better for the Commodores. Soon after Sherrill’s touchdown, Vanderbilt forced Tennessee RB Dylan Sampson to fumble, leading to yet another Commodores touchdown.

That’s music to the ears of Vanderbilt fans, but Tennessee fans have to be punching air right now. There’s a long way to go, but things could not have started any worse for Tennessee with a College Football Playoff berth on the line.

The Vols, sitting at 9-2 on the season, will surely be included in the 12-team field with a win, thanks to several Week 13 upsets in the SEC, including losses from Alabama, Texas A&M and Ole Miss.

Vanderbilt is in the middle of one of its best seasons in recent history. The Commodores have already downed Alabama this season, and a win over the Volunteers would fuel Commodore fans for a few years.

Tennessee isn’t exactly built to come back from a deficit like this either. The Vols stand on their elite defense, not quite their elite offense like the 2022 Vols did.

Let’s see if Tennessee can dig in and make this competitive.
