Given Auburn’s recent struggles, many Auburn fans have called for coach Gus Malzahn to be fired.

One man is more serious about it than most.

Thomas Downing of Anniston, Alabama, has created a GoFundMe to raise funds for Malzahn’s contract buyout, according to a report from WIAT.com. Here’s what Downing wrote on the GoFundMe page:

I am Thomas Downing and I have suffered through underperforming, dissappointing season after dissappointing [sic] season under Gus Malzahn . It’s time for a change.

Gus Malzahn is a hardheaded, stubborn, unimaginative coach. He has taken a remarkably talented team and has been out-coached, out-schemed, and he’s underdeveloped players, generally leading the team to mediocrity over and over again.

Apparently our flagship university can’t afford to buy him out of his contract, so I figured if we raised the money then they wouldn’t have any excuse as to why we can’t fire him.

Downing told WIAT that he will donate any funds collected to Toys for Tots should Auburn refuse them. The page currently has currently received no donations.

The Tigers are 28-15 since Malzahn took over in 2013, but the Tigers record has dropped each year since they reached the 2014 BCS National Championship Game. Auburn is 1-2 this season, and a 2-7 record in its last nine SEC games is heavily contributing to Malzahn’s hot seat.
