Well that might be what they're saying, but there's more to it than that. Last year our band director with the support of the LSU director created a plan to keep one band in the tunnel while the other is performing and it would have solved any problems of overcrowding. Even with LSU band director's approval, the athletic department declined it. There's something more to it than crowded sidelines
That does make sense. I remember hearing about this issue when we were told we wouldn't be playing halftime at LSU last year. I remember that our band director and LSU's director worked out a plan to keep one band in the tunnel while another was on the field and then have them switch places in the middle of halftime when the sidelines were less busy. The athletic department turned that plan down as well so I think there may be a little bit more to this than sideline space.
I'm not losing sleep over this or anything, I just find it somewhat sad. I can't speak for other schools, But AU loves the band. If you've been to a game in Jordan-Hare, you'd know that the pregame energy is incredible. Halftime maybe is a little less important, but I bet a lot more than 15% of people would be unhappy if they did away with them completely.... It's part of the gameday experience here with the pep-rallies and everything else.
As a member of the Auburn Marching Band, I think this is a pretty bad thing. We traveled to Baton Rouge last year and were denied the right to perform our halftime show for the same reasons. If LSU feels that they need to keep opposing teams' bands on their own field for safety reasons, that means they're admitting that they have no control over there own fan base. That's pretty alarming. Instead of just letting that be, they should maybe try to calm down their fans a bit.... I've preformed at Sanford stadium in Athens, and the entire stadium booed us marching on the field... Maybe that was of poor taste, but I never felt unsafe or anything of that sort. I don't think it'd be much different in Baton Rouge. The marching band performances should be a fun break from the heated hate of the opposing team and people can just share a common enjoyment of music, whichever school it comes from.
Its hard to argue with that bit lol. I think the West was definitely at one point the best in CFB this season, but because of that we just beat up on each other and we're out of gas near the end. To still call us the best division in the sport is a bit of a stretch.
or just a picture of Jameis's face
all dem bama fans in Alaska
I think the entire country should just be one giant FSU logo
couldn't agree more. I spent a lot of time since saturday hating on UGA and the fans that were bad, and I'm realizing now that I was just mad about losing. Thanks for reminding me that there's just as many, if not more of the good fans than the bad ones.
I did find this hard to believe... could It have maybe been students sitting next to the band?
This is a very well written and good intended response. Being there in the AU band, I'd have to say that what happened on saturday is somewhere in-between these two letters. We were definitely verbally abused, given middle fingers, and distasteful boos by more than a few fans. You could hear a definite loud boo from the general consensus of the stadium when we took the field at halftime. The other side of the band from where I was had some worse experiences, like getting drinks thrown and a lot of really hurtful things said. I'm sure our police had a lot to deal with over there. I do agree with most UGA fans here, that if everything the AU fan wrote is true, he had a uniquely bad experience, and I do see why it could be hard to believe. I can't decide whether I believe it or not, to be honest. he could just be a sore loser, or maybe he truly was just in all the wrong places at the wrong time... Which is totally possible, cause I'm positive that all these things to do happen, just maybe not very often, so maybe once in a blue moon, someone could possibly experience all of them in one trip. While my experience wasn't necessarily awful, it could've been a lot better. I have heard some pretty scary things from people I do trust, so I can't speak for the whole crowd. I do appreciate the kindness represented by this UGA fan though. I am glad that your school's good side is finally getting some press (every school has bad and good fans, no way around it.) It really sucks, but it is true that the smallest percentage of fans can be the most vocal, because all to often small acts of serious injustice are louder than people doing nothing wrong.
It sucks that its the bad fans that gather the most attention.. there's really no way around it
a few? How about the hundreds of fans that gathered at the exit and waiting to scream their cheer into our (the band) faces as we left the stadium. Just enjoy your win and go home. I'm not saying all your fans are classless, but it is heck of a lot more than a few.
thank you! I was really sad that we didn't get to stay and watch the Redcoats play, we had to go put instruments up :(
thankfully, we were all in the stadium well before students were, so the walk there wasn't too bad. it was the constant middle fingers we got riding into town, the fact that their entire student section actually booed us when we took the field (AU would never do that). about 100 UGA fans gathered at the exit and waited for us to come, then started yelling "Its great to be a georgia bulldog" in our faces. But yes, the Redcoat band was very nice, and many people in the tunnel told us good job after the show.
finally someone with common sense..... I feel like the AU Bama rivalry is in a better state than AU UGA... The Iron bowl seems to be about smack talk and bragging rights, all in good sport... UGA game seems to just be "whatever the outcome of this game, lets make Auburn fans hate themselves for coming here". I can't speak for my school, cause I've never been to a UGA game at Jordan-Hare... but I have a feeling that our students wouldn't boo their band as they take the field....
Being in the AU Band, we were not received too warmly either.
Yeah Colorado State!!! lolol
that might actually be kinda cool to see
they could've used real music in their video...
you out of your mind?? they had 3 receivers reach 100 yds... They have a great QB too. and that defense??? scary. they allow like an average of 15 points. get yo facts straight.
So sad to see such an amazing player get hurt in that way. I hope he recovers quick!
The awful calls sure did help us lose to State.... Had that huge pass not been taken back, it'd most likely be 27-28, and an entirely different game.
It was an amazing game. Ya'll were awesome guests!
It'd take more than that. For AU to go to the SECCG, State needs to lose twice, and we need to win out
My thoughts exactly. Us Auburn fans aren't huge fans of Mullen cause the whole Cam Newton thing, but he's got a lot going for his right now.
Firing him would probably only make the rest of the season worse... It might make some fans happy though. Remember 2012, Auburn people?
Miss State may not have the history that Florida has, but the job is just as good if not better right now. Florida hasn't been good since the Tebow days. There's not a lot of reason for Mullen to leave unless they throw $$$$$$$$$$ at him.
