Well said ! It seems there are those who want the game to be sterile BUT YET, they allow the extracurricular showing in every game and not one player ever gets thrown out. That is a part of the game that needs to be fixed! Watch any game and look at how much contact there is that is unnecessary after any play. I think it boils down to some of the more prominent legacy schools controlling decisions in the SEC office. SC was a target of it for years and then it settled down after Holtz sent in videos and has not been a problem recently.
I was at the game and it was obvious that the push of the line and Dylan Thompson's sneak went about a yard. But the referees gave a very bad spot. The video shows that with forward progress he went about a yard. I was actually expecting the referees to actually come back after the challenge and move the ball forward which would have avoided this silly controversy. If you doubt, look at the video above and see the push and stretch by Dylan Thompson. No doubt it was a first down, the referees still owe the Gamecocks a yard on this play.
"You see, what had happened was…I'm an @$$clown!"
@Saban's Comment: Well, I'm not a TN fan and I was glad Lane Kiffin left the SEC. Am I the only non-TN person who does not have respect for him? Of course, if I could tolerate him and was a head coach at a rival of TN and thought that putting him on my sideline would upset an opponent, I might considerate too. But I think in the long run, the other end of his body that he wears on his head is eventually going to show at Alabama and the Bama faithful will tire of him as well. That's just my small worthless prediction. He may win a few games but will run off enough boosters, recruits etc that the choice will prove detrimental.
They get confused about who wears the orange uniforms...
Georgia was first a penal colony before statehood!
Yay! Like we have shortage of Tigers in the conference....
Boy! I feel a lot more like I do now, than I did before I read that post! The bad grammar just does not bring the message home.
Interesting that the coaches whose teams are sitting at the top used somewhat humble words while the further you go down the chart the words become more colorful.
Also, how is it, he was second fiddle to A J Green. His stats are better! It's because the media caters to the GA Bulldogs as they always have.
Alshon should be around #3. Also, why list the All Purpose yards for backs when this is a Receivers list? Not showing much love for the Gamecocks in this poll. In all purpose yards, Randall Cobb is way above Alshon Jeffrey but no where close in receiving yards. Rename the poll or get it right...
If the recruiting services are right, then Spurrier would have to be greatest coach ever to get that much more out of middle of the road recruits. And Florida's coaching is just bad to not have been a contender for the SEC East title in the last 5 years but once.
Agreed! Also, the reasoning provided for Knoxville describes any SEC Schools fans and their school relationship. Where is the distinction that gives a hint of why there is separation. I'm disagreeing, just don't see very good reasoning. And what is the criteria? I've been to Los Angeles on many occasions and did not notice anything there about UCLA or Southern Cal.
Agreed Brad but this article was not written about the most dangerous places to play or even the stadiums with most obnoxious fans (hence UGA and UF left out). But it was written with nostalgia in mind (why did they leave TN out though). Williams-Brice experienced a change about 4 or 5 years ago where the season ticket holders were shuffled up. Spurrier decided instead of taking in a single scholarship fee for each buyer, that a smaller fee would be claimed on each ticket. Some of the long term ticket holders got angry and dropped out. This change brought a larger percentage of louder, active fans and a percentage of fans who sit and clap out of the picture. This is my observation seeing what happened in the stands between those two seasons. Net result, our fans in Williams-Brice are creating a hostile environment for visiting teams and when combined with the talent of coaching and players, we have 18 game streak at home and even prior to last two years, only lost one at home at most. There are some negatives to this that I won't get into. But either way the players feed off the fans and get pumped and we beat teams that have probably been better than us ie Ole Miss when they visited ranked #4, #2 Bama when S. Garcia had his last great performance there, and the thrashing of UGA two years ago. It's an indescribable chemistry that you have to experience that happens during big games there.
WOW! And the mascot debate is brought by and Aggie! Here's what Wikipedia says about an Aggie: Aggie may be a diminutive form of the given names Agnatha, Agamemnon, Agata/Agatha, Agnija, or Agnes. It may also be a diminutive form of a family name that begins with 'Ag-'. ...basically diminutive little girl! Just so that you know, the nickname Gamecock goes back over 200 years to General Sumter who helped defeat the British and he was given the name the 'Fighting Gamecock'. He was from an area not far from Columbia. This all prior to Texas becoming part of the nation. But with that said, the Texas A&M fans who attend the game in a few weeks will find a new version of the 12th man that is very loud and effective! In addition, it's hot and humid! The crowd is so loud on 3rd down for opposing offences, some on the field have said the ground even shakes literally! I will be sitting right behind them. Most visiting fans report that they will not be visiting Williams Brice again at the end of the game because it's not fun to lose there. At the end of the game we cheer and jeer at them and tell them to have a safe trip home! SC will certainly extend their winning record at home on 28-Aug-2014!
