SO, beating NC State, a mid level ACC team at best, and Missouri, a team that gave up 43 points to Missouri St, makes you a contender if you beat another mid level SEC team namely Kentucky. Now from a strictly W-L, scheduling perspective, sure, that's 2 wins in the SEC East before the other 'contenders' start their SEC schedule, so in that respect, yes, they have an advantage. But they still have to actually beat Georgia, Tennessee, and Florida, just to be in the conversation, and those games are highly unlikely.
It's about the running game and defense, that OL will open holes and can protect whoever ends up being QB, as always SEC will be tough, but gotta get behind my Dogs and reassure y'all that they are going to the playoff, for sure
Plus, at least for now, the SEC East offensive lines and running backs aren’t as scary as the West …. Nick Chubb, Todd Gurley, Sony Michel, Keith Marshall, Quavyon Hicks, Brendan Douglass, those are just the ones that had significant playing time this year at Georgia, I didn't even mention the Tenn run game, or the SC run game, and UGA has a top 5 OL in the country according to the vast majority of pundits, Tenn OL, UK OL …. I take exception to the ridiculous sentiment that the West is so much more dominant than the East, the 2 divisions are approx. 50% against each other over 10 years, and the SEC in general is per 60% against the rest of the country.
UGA did great with an average QB and new DC … UT is still a year or 2 away from competing for the East title. UK is up and coming, Vandy is a joke, UF has a new HC and will need awhile to retool, Mizzou is good, not great, got the breaks 2 years i a row to make into the SEC championship game, due to let down by the Dogs, Scar will be good, but not dominant, Spurrier is starting to slip and it shows. My prediction : UGA, Mizzou, UT/SCar, UK, UF, Vandy
Let's clarify something, GT lost 3 games this year, Duke, UNC and FSU, and won at UGA for only the 2d time in like 18 years, in OT because of a bad call by Coach Richt, So, don't get ahead of yourself, ACC is a weak conference, that's why there isn't much respect. Winston will NOT be back at FSU next year, especially after Oregon destroys them in the CFP. And the Dogs are losing a couple of key defensive players true, like Herrera, and 2 OLs, but that's what makes Coach Richt a great coach he and his staff prepare the back ups to take over, and there will be no letdown on Offense, and the Defense will be better in Pruitt's second year, the Dogs possible ranking is totally legit, with a better QB in there next year, the Dogs will be a major threat for the NC.
Well, Coach Richt stacks up quite nicely against "the best" …
I always get a kick outta the morons who think this is just the SEC teams that play FCS schools, just shows ignorance ..... and then you've got the ones that think it's only the SEC teams that are refusing to play other conferences, when in fact the other conferences coaches don't want to play the SEC teams, and so don't try to schedule them or ask for ridiculous conditions, like 2 games, with 1 in their home stadium and the other at a neutral site, and stupid stuff like that .... bottom line: folks might not like the fact that SEC gets all the hype and what not but the reason is because these teams are EXTREMELY good, it's not hype, it's just the truth, and when you look at schedules and records the SEC dominates in matchups against teams from other conferences
you're completely, utterly wrong about that ..... there isn't a single conference that doesn't schedule FCS teams to play .... FACT; and then there is also the fact that most conferences have 1-2 really good teams, and the rest of the conference might as well be FCS, the SEC is better than the other conferences top to bottom, even Vanderbilt .....
This might be a bigger deal if it was truly a David vs Goliath type match up, which it isn't, UGA is more than capable of putting a butt whooping on this extremely overrated Auburn squad. As I recall the Dogs had them beat, until a particularly stupid play by the 2 DB's that went for a highlight reel pick, rather than knocking the ball down and securing a win, and the Tide had them beat except for a major letdown in coverage after a missed FG …. they shouldn't have even been in the SEC championship game, and definitely didn't deserve to be in the National Championship game, and their ridiculously overrated rankings this year. Go Dawgs!!!!!!
I think the thing irritates me th emost about the situation isn't that Coach and the team and Gurley are doing the right thing, following the rules, it's that teams like FSU are flaunting the rules by allowing Winston, who clearly guilty of more than Gurley, to continue to play; what I hope happens is that the NCAA steps in and suspends Winston for the rest of the season, and makes them vacate the wins since the allegations came to light
Mississippi 24 vs Texas A&M 21 LSU 30 vs Florida 21 Georgia 24 vs Missouri 21 Auburn 21 vs Mississippi State 28 Alabama 24 vs Arkansas 17 Vandy, Tenn, KU all win big
Well, this sucks, but on a positive note, Coach Richt going ahead and suspending him right away is actually a smart play, while it will hurt for this game, Chubb will do fine; but by suspending him now, when the NCAA finishes it's investigation, and even if they find he did commit the infraction, since they set the precedent of 1/2 game suspension for Manziel, then Gurley will in all likelihood get the 'time served' rule and be back for the next game.
I don't care who it is honestly, if it's a game that is not broadcasted by the network affiliated with the team, like the bulldogs sports network I expect them to talk favorably about the Dogs throughout the game; but other than that announcers are supposed to be unbiased and objective, it gets so irritating to listen to these guys, and ladies, who are constantly favoring a particular team with their comments, or promoting the player du jour for the Heisman, i.e.: it was the announcers on ESPN that got the Heisman for Tebow, because they just felt it was time for a sophomore to get the award, same when Manziel got it, ESPN just felt it was time for a Freshman to get it, and it was announcers who made excuses for Winston's behavior that got him over the hump to win. ….. the homerism is such a distraction, that I often just listen to the radio broadcast, and do other things when the game is on.
Well, considering he's a fifth year senior, I would agree Mason is not our future QB. As far as accuracy, Mason has 3 INTs in 5 games, and has 68% completion percentage, he just is not confident in the deep ball, as long as the ground game is working he's got time to gain more confidence. Ramsey is the next guy, next year, it's good to get him some game experience, Coach Richt has always been good at getting the next QB game experience, so until we have to rely on Mason, and he lets us down, then I'm fine with sticking with him.
At least Coach Richt is consistent. He doesn't play the whole "this guy is too important to the team" he doesn't allow them to get that entitled mentality, where they think they can break team rules and the law and then expect the team to protect them. I respect him for that.
I agree looked legal to me, even at full speed …. I'm all about protecting players, but it's a contact sport, stuff happens. Looked clean to me.
Well, UF benefits from another bad no-call by the officials, not that I care about UF, they suck, but what I've noticed is a trend in the SEC officiating, terrible calls and no calls, the face mask the ALA/Ole Miss game yesterday that wasn't called, the blown first down call in UGA/SCar, 2 delay of games in UF games that gave the Gators wins, the pass interference no call in TAMU/ARK, and those are just the ones that come to mind off the top of my head, what we have is officials deciding the outcomes of games. This has to be stopped, let it be decided by the players on the field.
Well, as far as Top coaches go …. Coach Richt is #16 on the current NCAA winningest coaches list, .737 after 14 years, with only 2 SEC coaches ahead of him: Nick Saban, #12 19 years, .752 (with 2 SEC schools a national champions) understandable, and Gus Malzahn, 3 years, .833 , baed on record OK, but he doesn't have the longevity to say he's at the top of any list; Hugh Freeze hasn't done anything yet, and Sumlin has 2 wins against ranked opponents during the 3 years they've been in the SEC, not top material, we'll see how they do this week. So, until proven otherwise, it's Saban, Miles, Spurrier (slight upchuck there, 'cuse me) Richt and Pinkel, they've all got longevity as winning head coaches, and have proven themselves over and over, time and time again. When these up and comers prove themselves against these guys over a period of years, or win conference and national championships, then they can be considered top of the heap.
South Carolina vs Kentucky : SCar 28 - KY 14 Texas A&M vs Mississippi State : TAMU 24 - MSST 34 Florida vs Tennessee : FL 20 - Tenn 28 Vanderbilt vs Georgia : Vandy 10 - UGA 35 LSU vs Auburn : LSU 31 - AUB 24 Alabama vs Mississippi : AL 34 - Ole Miss 21
"Quarterback. It’s safe to say that Hutson Mason has underwhelmed this season. " First of all, our biggest flaw is in the Secondary, we are giving up way too many intermediate and deep passes. QB is not a flaw, Mason has done exactly as OC Bobo has told him, 'keep it short, keep it efficient' …. 70% completion percentage, and only 2 INTs in 4 games …. don't see anything particularly bad about those numbers. I 'll tell you this, when we lose a game because we had to rely on Mason to win it for us, then there can be questions about it, but until then we'll keep riding Gurley and the rushing attack, with an efficient short passing game.
I beg to differ, if the Vols were the better team then they would have won, that being said the better team won, that being the Dogs, so sorry, nice try, way to pump yourself up after a loss ….
A win is a win, no matter how you look at it.
I seem to be one of the few who has never really had a problem with Bobo as the OC, on rare occasions the offense gets bogged down and scores fewer than 25 points, but most of the time it's the offense that bails out poor performances by the defense, as again against Tenn the D gave up 32 points.
1: Agreed Gurley is THE #1 contender for the Heisman right now 2: Agreed has done exactly what he's been asked to do, and the problem with that is???? OK, 2 INTs this week, on the other hand that's 2 INTs in 4 games, seems OK to me; totally disagree about the Tenn defense, they are OK but far from the best defense so far, I guess you forgot Clemson and Scar. 3:Agreed secondary is the issue right now, they are getting gashed at mid range over the middle and deep wide. 4:Disagreed I don't know where this keeps coming from Mike Bobo has been an outstanding OC, the O continues basically score at will against all comers, but everybody constantly wants to question what he calls; Here's my piece, the next game that Georgia loses, that isn't shootout, where the O can't scores less than 20 points, then you can question what Mike Bobo is doing but when your O is averaging over 30 points a game this year, and over 27 pts a game for over 10 years, the problem are not on the Offensive side of the ball. 5: Exactly, a win is a win, in the toughest conference in the country, and to get to the big games you have to win the ones that count, so all this BS about the West being so much better than the East is meaningless until they play each other. Tx A&M doesn't impress me, Auburn is typically overrated, Ole Miss and MSU are surprisingly doing well, but also overrated, LSU is good, but no the beast they've been, and ALA is ALA, until someone beats them they are the best in the SEC.
The hogs let that gam get away from them, the 2 TDs called back for bone head mistakes by the OL, that didn't have any impact of the plays …. a bobbled snap, the missed FG kick that looked like he was aiming for the sideline. Arkansas had that game won, and let it get away. On the other congrats to A&M for not giving up and hanging in there for a win.
208 yards and 2 TDs, and 73 yds on 6 carries, and the coach sits him down so the other players can get some playing in a blowout win, that's your version of "contained" …. alright, well in that case I'll take a hit of whatever you're been smoking, cuz it must be some damn good stuff
Mark Richt is a class coach, PERIOD. He is well aware that this isn't going to change the outcome of the game, but it might make a difference in a game down the road. As far as the call / no call against Gurley, that's Spurrier's job to have reviewed, NOT Coach Richt's.
Article 7 clearly states "inside edges of the poles", NOT the last link, never listen to the announcer because they are just stating opinion. And if you look at the picture you can see the ref's shoe through the space between the nose of the ball and the pole, so by the rules that is not a first down …. however, 2 things: unless you have a GPS tracker on both ends of a football, then it is impossible to see where the ball is, it's a judgement call that the ref's have to make, and it could have very easily been another foot forward or a foot back; this loss was on the defense and kicker, I will never blame a loss on ref's or penalties, those are things to overcome, the defense didn't stop the run, the secondary looked confused, and they didn't pressure the QB enough, all of which they did well in the Clemson game, I dare say Clemson is every bit as good as, or better than, SCar. BOTTOM LINE : It was clearly a blown call.
Georgia is going to win without a lot of trouble. They have a better all, around team, that is much more physical, and an improved defense. UGA 35, Scar 21 And I actually think UK wins @ the Swamp.
OK, it was a good hit, in the preseason. Not a spectacular play, not even close to the great hit he had against Michigan. So, let's not appoint him the heir apparent to Michael Strahan or Reggie White or L.T. just yet.
