UGA alum in exile in Seattle... yeah, that place that has the University that wears dumb T-Shirts that say "Real Dawgs Wear Purple And Gold" or some such nonsense. IT Pro, played football until I managed to almost destroy my left leg, avid sports watcher, but not a fanatic- I prefer logic over passion, and I'll tear somebody down who is irrational. A child can scream and cry too. It's not that hard. I particularly hate the "Fire Mark Richt" crowd, because of their 'win at all costs' attitude. If you're a good coach who emphasizes and promotes good character, odds are, eventually the breaks should go your way. If you win at all costs, particularly from a fan, standpoint, are you going to ever be able to free yourself from the truth that you just whored yourself out for the fleeting feeling of success? You're worse than a $25 bucks a fuck crackwhore, because she's actually getting more out of her transaction, and is only damaging herself.

What is this goofy crap? You have got to be kidding me: what, with the injury rate and other attrition, how is this relevant? Has anyone bothered to see if there is something statistically significant with this information? You gotta be jonesing hardcore for your football fix if you're drilling this far into the details. I would instead look at how many snaps each player had, since the key to victory these days isn't just performance, it's performance across roster depth. (Which is why I think Tennessee still struggles for one or two more years-- yes, they have a lot of seasoning, but I think they have to rebuild the depth of talent. Wear out the starters and that's your ballgame.)
Look, while some may question this ranking, I think it's probably fair. I mean, yeah, Mizzou got the trip to ATL, and while you can debate about head-to-head or full season perspective, but when you look at those rankings, I believe it is legitimate to say that UGA either has beaten or could beat every team that is ranked behind them. But it doesn't matter anyway. We're done with '14 and we need to be thinking about '15. Lots of changes for the Dawgs, and it could be a very... interesting season. It sure as Hell is intriguing already!
Apparently, that one win did a lot for your ego, if not your brain. What people are forgetting is that Bobo was a great coordinator for us, but he was mentored by Richt directly, and I would argue that is why the Dawgs won't see too much of a drop-off next year. Any deficits will likely be a result of loss of continuity; it is perhaps fortunate that we're starting with a new QB under center, who won't have an entire season under his belt running Bobo's particular system. But we'll see, I suppose.
Okay... let's bring back Donnan or Goff! Wait...
I am troubled by this: not because I'm a UGA grad, or because I was disrespected/insulted at away games (people tend not to screw with somebody my size), but because this is indicative of a deeper problem within our society: after all, wasn't it two LA Dodger fans that beat the San Fran fan/ firefighter almost to death? Fights in the stands at hockey games? Soccer hooligans in Ireland/England? Seriously, have we as a society degraded to the point where violent outbursts over sports is tolerable??? It's on US to stop this! We say at Georgia "Respect the 'G' ", but you earn respect, and we need to start policing our own. When you see some inebriated snothead acting like a jackass, step to him and tell him that a real man, and a real Dawg, doesn't act like that! It may only change a few people's behavior, but hopefully the attitude will spread. I also challenge all of our SEC brethren to do the same with their own-- disown and disavow your Harvey Updikes, your drunken 'sidewalk alumni', and other perpetrators of these bad behaviors. Let's make the SEC not only the class of CFB, but the classiest fans of CFB!
Brother, it could be Little Sisters of the Poor taking the field against our Dawgs, and they would be fired up beyond belief. We just get every team's best shot. Period. And you know what? I wouldn't have it any other way, if I'm honest. These are the flames that forge character, and even in a loss, build respect for the 'G'
I don't think so: I think that UGA acted as they did because they felt that the environment had changed since AJ Green was suspended for selling his jersey (and they appealed that ruling immediately as well). They were clearly thinking of the Winston fiasco at FSU, and the Manziel bullcrap last year. Unfortunately, the NCAA once again demonstrated that there is no point in trying to be a 'good citizen', and it's better to lie and attempt to cover things up or explain it away.
You guys missed a very large consideration: the negative impact on your own coaching search-- what coach wants to work for an AD who is going to pull the plug early and not even allow him the opportunity to finish out with a little grace? I don't think you should ever fire a coach mid-season; to use the Gators' situation as an example, they're not going to salvage anything from this season, even if the interim coach wins every remaining game, and history shows us that he's likely to do worse, actually. In regards to recruiting and a coaching search, there is no reason these can't continue on as normal without a firing, provided the coach was recruiting to the school and not to himself. Yes, you would appease the fans, but the thing is, once you cave in to the fans, you become beholden to them: an AD has to operate within the best interests of the program, always. That actually provides a disincentive to firing a coach mid-season.
Honestly, I am cautiously optimistic, but the truth is that I would say the jury is still out on my Dawgs. It is our first year under Pruitt as DC, we lost our entire secondary, and it's also Mason's first year as full-time starter. I'm heartened by the fact that our defense really seems to be improving week-to-week, our halftime adjustments seem to be much more effective this year, and the kids really seem to be committed. But we still have injuries and the Gurley situation to contend with, along with Auburn, and some glaring vulnerabilities. I suppose we shall see how far they can get, but honestly? I think it's all gravy, really, because we had no real reason (outside of the awesomeness that is Gurley) to be overly optimistic about this season.
Uhm, I hate to break it to you guys, but the Athletics department is not, in fact, beholden to you. They do not have to disclose anything to you or any of the fans. These men and women are professionals, and if you do not trust them to do their jobs, well, I suggest you either stop following UGA, or you file a FOI act request. But bitching about it on a message board? Please.
You are incorrect. Players may not sign memorabilia for a dealer, or sign something which will be used directly for monetary profit. For a charity fundraiser, yeah, but the NCAA specifies that an 'expectation of eventual repayment' could be an issue if signing autographs for an entity that directly profits off of those signatures.
Good lord, were you drunk when you wrote this? "Vanderbilt faced a highly overmatched Georgia team" please go look up 'overmatched', and "Tood Gurley"? Can we get some copy review at least?!?
Sure you did; I believe you, Mr. Random Internet Guy, particularly when you make an incorrect statement like "Bourbon Street 'loses' the videotapes when football players are involved..." even though the article specifically states that Bourbon Street turned over the tapes to the police, who reviewed them. How about this? If he wasn't a rising star, nobody would've heard about this incident in the first place, and you wouldn't be spreading unconfirmable rumors about a star player.
Hmm. A name that I'm surprised is not here: Sony Michel lined up out of the backfield on a few plays at Clemson. One was a jet sweep, yeah, but there is no reason they couldn't give the kid a simple route tree and have him stretching the defense. Plus, is there ever a time when our Dawgs don't have injury issues at *some* position? We just have to get it done, particularly if we wish to validate all the high praise we've been getting.
Shout-out to SDS for giving Stephen Garcia a job-- He's a funny dude! (Hey, Steve, you should write a tell-all about your times with 'Darth Visor'-- you'd make a mint!)
Oh wait, you mean the Mike Davis who went 6 carries for 15 yards (a 2.5 ave) against A&M and is 'sort of doubtful' for EAST CAROLINA???? Are on DRUGS?? (well, you should share!)
...except for the fact that, no, there isn't a statistically significant increase in injuries for kick returners: it is far more common for a blocker to be injured than a returner. Football is a game that inherently has a risk of injury: kids have suffered torn ACLs without any contact at all. As a former player, I can tell you that you absolutely can't think of self-preservation: the moment you do, your performance suffers. SDS this is just a hideously stupid article. If there were a statistically significant increased risk to players attempting to return punts and kickoffs, the coaches would just have the kids fair-catch/kneel any time that the game wasn't on the line! They have staff dedicated to analyzing the odds of particular outcomes, after all. Seriously, I hope you guys can find better subject matter to discuss in the future.
"offensive production they ARE missing..." Dammit, SDS, get a comment applet that lets users edit their posts already! Sheesh!
I dunno about that, yet; Clemson could be having a tougher time rebuilding than people figured. I mean, with Boyd and Watkins gone, that's some serious offensive production they're not missing. Stipulated that their offense was getting the job done before the half, however. 8 may actually be a little high. South Carolina will be the true test of the Dawgs mettle, I think: the rivalry has gotten brutally competitive in the past 4-5 years, Cocky's defense is usually stout, and we have to play AT Williams-Brice (Now with Overlord Spurrier watching all the proceedings.) Turn in the same result, and it's gonna be a hell of a ride for Georgia this year!
I think that I speak for many in the Dawg Nation when I say that we have every confidence Hutson Mason as our QB, but that we wonder how he'll handle the two-minute drill. I don't care what team you pull for, you have to admit that Aaron Murray set himself apart in his ability to win when it counted most-- and the whole world would know that, but for 7 seconds and 5 yards in 2012. Once Mason drives the length of the field to score the winning touchdown in the last two minutes of a game against a heated rival-- then we all will be completely comfortable with him behind center.
The bottom line is this: there is no one in the SEC that can cast aspersions on Mark Richt in regards to discipline-- it is common knowledge that UGA holds its athletes to a higher standard than the rest of the league, and will not make exceptions for star athletes (see: Crowell, Isaiah). And before anyone claims that that hurts the team, 1) I would rather have the pride of wearing the 'G' for being a brother alumnus to men and women who are not only superlative athletes, but superlative members of society after the bright lights have faded, and 2) 5 seconds. 7 yards. CJ Moseley's fingertips. THOSE are the only things that stand between UGA and a national championship, and getting it the right way. Remember that blind Bama homer. We will be there again, and we will drive the stake into your hearts this time.
It's obvious that the HBC has given Cocky some juice on the recruiting trail; UGA can't just toss an offer to an SC kid and expect them to jump at it any more. Personally, I don't really care about who's going where, provided that you don't see them all headed to the same place. (Alabama, anyone?)
