He did stay at USC after Kiffin was fired though. But, who knows what's gonna happen.
Oh, please - this is lazy "journalism". Dooley inherited recruiting classes from Fulmer and Kiffin, while Jones inherited classes from Dooley. Also, I remember Dooley teams getting absolutely manhandled in larger games because they would lay down and quit as soon as things turned south. At least Butch's boys will fight when they're down (i.e. Alabama game). I'm not saying everything is rosy. But, you aren't looking hard if you think Dooley and Jones are the same. There's more to it than their records at this point. I'm not thrilled we lost to UF, but people need to take a deep breath.
Yeah, the play calling was far too conservative to be up 17-3 in the 3Q. I was also disappointed at the lack of effort to get Kamara involved. He gets stuffed on four carries and then we stop trying to get him the ball? I'm no expert, but an effort to call plays to get him the ball in space would seem to make some sense.
Yeah, it's gonna take time. I think the fact that we aren't losing these games 45-10 anymore is improvement. Gotta stay positive.
Under completely different circumstances. Dooley was working with players he inherited from Fulmer and Kiffin recruiting classes. Butch inherited three years of Dooley recruiting classes. It's going to take some time - statistics aren't always that simple.
Hahaha c'mon dude. That comeback was weak. The white pants are better than the orange pants, that's obvious.
Thank you so much for putting words in every single Tennessee fan's mouth that Preston Williams is their favorite player because of this event. I saw plenty of people on Twitter praising him. But, how about you don't use a blanket statement for people? Every single fan base has the irrational fans. Even Vandy.
Let me preface this with saying that he shouldn't have done what he did. It lacked class and reflected poorly on him. With that said, Auburn (or any other SEC fan) acting holier than thou about these recruits is extremely hypocritical. Auburn took Cam Newton and Nick Marshall after they got kicked out of their first programs. So, yes, Preston Williams lacked common sense this past weekend, but he's 18 years old.
I agree with you that our receiving corps is deep and really solid. Williams will see limited time--but saying Vic Wharton and Cody Blanc can "slice defenses apart" is hyperbole. Wharton has come along and might end up being serviceable. But, Blanc has one career catch. I would imagine Williams would start higher than Blanc on the depth chart haha.
I think you're overreacting a little bit. He also notes that we aren't where we need to be. It isn't like Jones thinks he has Tennessee where it needs to be. But, he's noting the progress that has been made since Dooley left the dumpster fire he created.
You can't get one top 5 recruiting class and expect everything to be fixed. The guys that are coming in are still 17-18 years old. Unfortunately, many UT fans are expecting a whole lot out of these Freshman coming in, but it's just unrealistic to expect a ton from year 2. Year 3 expectation will be around 8 wins, and then SEC east contention in year 4.
I'm just saying that you're simplifying the situation a little bit. Yes, it comes down to wins and losses but the state Tennessee is in currently in demands patience from the fanbase. You're allowed to think whatever you what, but Jones has to start from ground zero with rebuilding the roster. Not every situation is Auburn. You'll hear chatter in Knoxville if we go 4-8 or 5-7 which is definitely possible. But, some coaching needs more time. My point about Jones vs. Dooley is that Jones is at least showing the signs of moving in the right direction. Dooley wasn't showing those signs. He wasn't bringing in talent with recruiting and the team looked confused on the field. May seem funny, but the players at least seeming like they know what's going on is improvement from the last regime.
Didn't know Barbara Dooley commented on SDS boards. We're moving in the right direction--needs more than 2 years.
Butch is doing work on the recruiting trail that Dooley never did. And those "better players" are freshman and sophomores. Dooley lost with NFL talent that he inherited from Fulmer and he who shall not be named. People need to be patient with Butch, it's gonna take longer than 1 year.
Then explain to me why the offensive and defensive line depth is so terrible. It's because he did an awful job on the recruiting trail and didn't establish good relationships with local high school coaches. I will be thrilled if we go 6-6, I'm ready to be patient. But, with Butch we're at least seeing the signs of competent coaching. Dooley did not show those same signs.
Butch Jones was playing with Cincinnati recruits while Dooley had inherited top level recruits from Fulmer and Kiffin. It isn't as simple as you're making it out to be. What those former players are saying is that he at least acts like he knows what he's doing in the recruiting process. Von Bell, who will be a Sophomore at Ohio State is from Chattanooga, TN and grew up a Vol fan. 5* Safety, Dooley didn't chase him. Jones is making that stuff a priority. No one is saying Butch Jones is General Neyland yet, just doing the right things to piece together a shattered program.
Well..he's enrolling in January. So don't think there's enough time for him to switch.
