Former Florida quarterback Danny Wuerffel made his first start for the Gators in 1993 in a home game against Tennessee. Either redshirt junior Kyle Trask or redshirt freshman Emory Jones will do the same Saturday.

With Feleipe Franks out for the rest of the season due to an ankle injury, Florida will use both Trask and Jones at quarterback moving forward. That includes this weekend’s game against the Vols, as the No. 9 Gators look to build off their 3-0 start to the season.

As the quarterback picture at Florida has changed, Wuerffel took the time Monday night to tweet his support to Franks, while also giving Trask and Jones a message ahead of Saturday’s game:

While Gators head coach Dan Mullen has stated that he plans to play both Trask and Jones moving forward, it was Trask that came into the game to lead them to victory against Kentucky this past Saturday. After trailing by 11 points through three quarters, Florida scored 19 unanswered points to come back for a 29-21 win.

It will be interesting to see how Mullen utilizes his pair of quarterbacks against Tennessee this Saturday, as it could give a better indication of his exact plans the rest of the season.

The Gators and Vols are set to kick off on Saturday at noon ET on ESPN.
