Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the world of college sports has come to an abrupt halt. Now, the NCAA Tournaments and the spring tournaments have been canceled, and that means careers are over for basketball players around the country.
That includes at Kentucky, where the Wildcats were the No. 1 seed in the SEC Tournament after winning the regular-season title.
On Saturday, coach John Calipari issued a heartfelt series of tweets about his time with this year’s players coming to an end:
The meetings, the practices, the individual times, giving them books to read, talking about things other than basketball, etc. – it’s over for the immediate future. The reality of that hit today.

Don’t get me wrong, we will stay connected with the kids. We will still text and talk over the phone and give these kids guidance. It’s just not seeing my guys every day that is going to hurt for a while.

If we’ve done our jobs and their families have done their jobs, our kids will continue to make good decisions. My hope is we’ve set a great foundation for their future success. Hope everyone is staying safe out there and listening to the advisories of our nation’s leaders.

Guys like Tyrese Maxey, Ashton Hagans, Nick Richards, Immanuel Quickley and others could be off to the NBA Draft now, so their time at Kentucky has perhaps come to an end.
We’ll see what happens in the coming weeks, but there are going to be some important decisions that have to be made.
