Bo Wallace summed up his thoughts on his performance in last Thursday’s season opener with one succinct statement.

“I felt I played good except for three throws,” Wallace told the media Monday afternoon.

The senior acknowledged that those three throws, referring to his three first half interceptions in the win over Boise State, nearly cost the Rebels, and said he understands those turnovers can’t happen in SEC games down the road.

Wallace explained he began to target his checkdown options more in the second half rather than trying to force the issue; the Rebels would go on to outscore Boise State 28-7 in the final half to win by 22 points.

“I was forcing the balls into places I shouldn’t have thrown it. Going forward I know what I have to do,” Wallace said, adding, “I just have to scale it back and play within the offense.”

The Rebels’ signal caller felt good about the way the offense played for most of the game, and knows it is capable of keeping up with any team in the SEC. But Ole Miss must eliminate its mistakes for the offense to reach its full potential, and that task begins with Wallace’s play under center.

“We were moving the ball the whole game on them. … It was the false starts putting us behind the chains and the turnovers in their territory were just killing us,” Wallace explained.

The Rebels get a few extra days between their first two games having opened the year on Thursday night. Ole Miss will take on Vanderbilt in the lone SEC matchup of the weekend Saturday at LP Field in Nashville. The offense should get plenty of opportunities to find its rhythm against a defense that allowed 37 points to Temple last week.

Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 PM ET.
