As the Tennessee Volunteers prepare for a 2016 season that many expect to be great, a sophomore wide receiver could play a big part.

Jauan Jennings, who came to Tennessee as a quarterback before switching to wide receiver in last year’s fall practices, has drawn praise from coach Butch Jones.

According to rockytopinsider.com, Jones anticipates a bigger role for the rising sophomore who made several contributions to the team last year:

“If you look at just his special teams value last year, especially on our kickoff team. And then going from quarterback, and he played quarterback all spring and then made that change going into fall camp. And we thought he continued to grow and get better and better as a receiver. He’s just an athlete.”

Jones said he loves Jennings’ attitude and how he’ll do whatever it takes to be on the field for the Volunteers:

“He’s a natural at what he does, but his competitive drive, I think his instincts really take over and we’re expecting him to have a great year for us.”

Jennings caught 14 passes for 149 yards last season, but if he stays healthy, it’s probably a safe bet that he’ll eclipse those numbers as a sophomore in 2016.
