According to a report from The Advocate, LSU has narrowed its head coach search down to Houston head coach Tom Herman and interim head coach Ed Orgeron.

It was reported that Orgeron met with LSU AD Joe Alleva on Friday morning to discuss the job. It appears as if Herman is the top target for the job — although he shot down the rumor prior to Houston’s 48-44 loss to Memphis on Friday.

Texas is also said to be pursuing Herman extremely hard. However, the Longhorns still have a head coach under contract in Charlie Strong. There isn’t a timetable for LSU hiring a head coach. As it pertains to Herman, a bidding war may ultimately arise between UT and LSU.

Orgeron allegedly laid out a detailed plan for the future with Alleva. He plans on hiring a successful and proven offensive coordinator, and would also like to retain popular defensive coordinator Dave Aranda.

Many players have publicly offered their support for Orgeron to be named as the head coach. A proud Louisiana native, Orgeron appears to be a very good fit from a cultural standpoint.
