Former Mizzou WR Jeremy Maclin reveals the serious injury he played through last season

The Kansas City Chiefs have not handled their breakup with former Mizzou WR Jeremy Maclin very well at all.

After cutting ties with him well after the free agency period started, they hurt his ability to truly test the open market, as many teams signed wide receivers earlier in the offseason.

Then, there was the fact that the team’s general manager cut Maclin via voicemail instead of waiting to speak with the talented receiver in person.

Maclin landed on his feet and is now a member of the Baltimore Ravens, where he hopes to prove the Chiefs made a mistake in letting him go.

The Ravens are getting a player who is not afraid to play through pain, as Maclin revealed on ESPN reporter Adam Schefter’s podcast that the groin injury he was dealing with last year was much more serious than he let on:

“Well, I tore my groin last year,” Maclin said to Schefter. “So, if I’m supposed to be just as fast with a torn groin, then more power to them. Man, I guess they just have to wait and see. I don’t really have anything else to say about that. Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion. I’ll still be able to get open. I’ll still be able to make big plays, that’s for sure.”

Maclin said he wasn’t at full strength last season, but added that he wouldn’t use that fact as an excuse for his lack of production:

“I came back and I was able to play but I can’t sit up here and tell you I was 100 percent,” Maclin said. “I’m also not going to sit up here and make excuses. At the end of the day, I didn’t play as well as I could have last year and that’s ultimately what happened.”

In 12 games in 2016, Maclin recorded 44 catches for 536 yards and two touchdowns. He’ll try to improve on those numbers this fall.
