LSU and BYU will have to change their travel plans.

The two teams were set to open the season against each other Saturday at NRG Stadium in Houston. But that was before Hurricane Harvey. The hurricane has caused flooding in the area, with as many as 50 inches of rain expected in the next few days.

Because of that, LSU athletics director Joe Alleva released a statement Sunday through a school spokesman saying Sunday the game will have to be moved to a new location.

“Almost certainly it will not be played in Houston. He has not been told that officially yet, but he is almost certain that the game will not be able to be played in Houston on Saturday,” said Bill Franques, an athletics department spokesman, citing Alleva.

“It almost certainly will be moved to another venue. What venue that will be, he wasn’t able to say yet. He says he knows game officials have been in contact with several different venues and that a decision will be made as soon as possible, naturally as early in the week as possible so that the teams, game management officials and everyone, ESPN included, can be prepared for wherever the game my be played.”

Two of the venues being considered as a new host for the game include LSU’s Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge and the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans.

This marks the third straight season an LSU game has been affected by a natural disaster.

In 2014, its road game against South Carolina was moved from Columbia to Baton Rouge due to flooding. And then last season, a hurricane temporarily postponed its game against Florida.
