As the Governor’s Cup approached, many wondered which side Vince Tyra would be on.

As the game has arrived this week, there’s now no mystery.

After all, the new interim athletics director at Louisville is a former Kentucky baseball player.

“People are clear of my loyalty to UofL,” Tyra said in a video posted by KSTV. “And people are clear, even from the day I left the campus up there, and I’m certainly supportive of the sport of baseball and certainly thankful for the scholarship I had and what it availed me, but I’m a UofL fan. I’m excited. I talked to Mitch Barnhart yesterday and we get to share a few laughs, but I want to go down there and kick their ass.”

The Wildcats play host to the Cardinals hoping to win a second straight after Louisville previously won five straight in the series.

Both teams are 7-4 and this is the 30th meeting in the series.
