The Kentucky Wildcats have had some success the past couple of years with Stephen Johnson as their starting quarterback.

However, this fall, they’ll have to find someone new, as Johnson’s college eligibility has been used up. On Friday, as the Wildcats prepare for their spring game, coach Mark Stoops commented on the ongoing battle.

As you can see below, Stoops said there’s no rush for naming a starter, telling KentuckySportsRadio.com that he wants to wait to make sure he gets the decision right:

“It’s too early,” he said. “We’ve had 15 practices. It’s an important decision. You wanna give everybody an opportunity to compete and win the job. There’s really no rush. I don’t feel like I’m in a situation where you gotta panic and make that decision right away.”

Stoops added that the top two options at the moment are JUCO transfer Terry Wilson and Gunnar Hoak. Both will likely see plenty of action in Saturday’s spring game.

From there, we’ll have to wait to see who takes command of the job this summer.
