Back in January, the Missouri Tigers fired softball coach Ehren Earlywine just before the start of the 2018 season.

Then, Gina Fogue took over as the interim coach, leading the Tigers to a 30-29 record before they were eliminated from the NCAA Tournament on Sunday in a 7-0 loss to Oklahoma.

Now, it appears the Tigers will be back on the hunt for a new coach, as St. Louis Post-Dispatch reporter Dave Matter announced that Fogue had been fired on Tuesday afternoon:

The story on STLToday.com quoted a statement released by Mizzou about the coaching change and ensuing search for Fogue’s replacement:

“A national search is underway to recruit the very best individual to lead Mizzou Softball into the future,” Mizzou athletics director Jim Sterk said in a statement released Tuesday. “Our program enjoys a rich tradition, plays in a state-of-the-art facility and competes in the nation’s toughest conference, and it is our desire to build upon past successes moving forward. We will not utilize a search consultant in this process, and in order to protect the integrity of the search, I will have no further public comments regarding the process or the status of any candidates until the announcement of Mizzou’s next head softball coach is made.”

Since the season just ended, there’s no rush to name a new coach. Sterk will consider his options before making a move for the Tigers’ future.
