On Monday night, Kyler Murray became the No. 9 overall pick in the 2018 MLB Draft as the Oakland A’s picked him in Round 1.

However, he’s still going to play football for the Sooners this fall, and he’s expected to be the team’s starting quarterback.

If he signs his projected rookie contract, though, he’ll end up making more this season than his coach — Lincoln Riley.

Even though Riley just got a raise after leading the Sooners to the College Football Playoff in his first year at the helm of the program, he likely won’t make as much as Murray’s projected $4.76 million. In fact, that salary would make Murray the third-highest paid person in the entire Big 12:

Murray’s reported agreement with the A’s stipulates that he’ll be allowed to play football this fall, but then he’ll begin his pro baseball career.

That means he’ll forgo his final year of football eligibility, but he has nearly five million reasons to pursue baseball instead.
