After he lost the kicking competition to Parker White, Shane Hynes will transfer from South Carolina to Wayne State, coach Will Muschamp announced on Tuesday.

Hynes, who graduated from Kent State, will move closer to his hometown of Clarkston, Mich.

At Kent State, he was a placekicker and handled kickoffs. He made 31-of-48 field goal attempts and 55-of-57 extra points. Auburn and Florida were possible destinations for him before he settled on South Carolina.

Hynes never enrolled in classes at South Carolina. White, who was 14-for-25 last season, won the competition with Hynes and Alex Woznick, who was one for three last season.
