The Alabama Crimson Tide had to completely revamp their secondary this offseason, and they also had holes in the linebacking corps and along the defensive line to fill.

However, it seems the rebuild is complete, as the Tide have the No. 10 scoring defense in the country heading into this weekend’s showdown at LSU.

On Friday, Alabama radio play-by-play guy Eli Gold joined SiriusXM and explained how the Tide defense has been able to mature so quickly:

“Number one, all of those inexperienced, but talented, defensive backs and the young linebackers are now eight games into the season,” he said. “So yes, they are still freshmen, but they are far more experienced than they were going into the Louisville game. The other factor that a lot of people tend to overlook, and I do see this when I go out to practice, is that this young defense, every single day in practice is lining up against what is arguably the best or one of the best and most explosive offenses in America. When they’re out there on the practice field, these young, inexperienced guys are having to keep up with Jerry Jeudy, having to keep up with Jaylen Waddle and having to keep up with DeVonta Smith and having to stop Damien Harris and Najee Harris. That makes you better.”

Will that translate to success against LSU’s offense on Saturday night? We’ll find out in just over 24 hours.
