The Auburn Tigers’ magical NCAA Tournament run came to an end Friday night to Virginia 63-62 in the Final Four.

The Cavaliers scored five points in the last eight seconds to somehow win the game.

Auburn led at halftime 31-28, despite not playing too well, but UVA’s defense started the second half strong. The Tigers also started 0-7 on second half field goals, while UVA got off to a 8-0 second-half run. That may have been the difference, as it allowed UVA to settle in on defense for much of the half.

Auburn’s offense struggled against the Cavs defense in the second half until late. The Tigers just looked gassed out there for much of the second half. Jared Harper was struggling with cramps, and the offense just didn’t seem to flow well. Part of that has to do with UVA, of course, but some of that had to do with the Tigers’ inability to hit shots. Auburn finished just 9-for-31 (29 percent) from three.

UVA looked like it seized control as it stretched its lead to 10 points with five minutes left in the second half, but Auburn came roaring back to take the lead with just seconds left.

Unfortunately, Auburn fouled UVA’s Kyle Guy on a last-ditch three-point attempt for the win, and he knocked down all three free throws to get the win.

Here’s the replay:

Virginia’s De’Andre Hunter and Ty Jerome came alive in the second half and really took over the game. Hunter scored 14 points, while Jerome scored 21. The Cavaliers totaled nine blocks compared to Auburn’s three.

Virginia advances to play the winner of Michigan State-Texas Tech in Monday night’s national championship game.
